Frequently Asked Questions
-
We think so! At June Dog, we believe that training is as essential to a dog’s behavioral health as veterinary care is to their physical health. While many pet owners get by on their own, working with a trainer helps to stop problems before they start, open communication channels via accurate assessment of body language, and tailor the wealth of information out there to what is relevant to the dog in front of you.
The sooner you invest in your dog’s training, the less likely you are to need serious intervention later, which can be costly, dangerous, and more difficult to address.
-
If you are a person or family looking to harmoniously coexist with your pet dog(s), you’ve come to the right place.
We work with people who have dogs with problem behaviors, clients who need support with an upcoming life change like having a baby, new adopters of puppies and adult dogs, and anyone who wants to understand and support their dog better.
We currently do not offer training sessions that result in competitive titles or service animal certifications.

Our short answer is yes!
Positive reinforcement, or the addition of a stimuli (treats, a toy, praise) to reward desired behavior is scientifically proven to increase the likelihood of that behavior’s occurrence, and can be used successfully to train any behavior.
While negative punishment, or the removal of a desired stimuli (like turning your back when a dog jumps up on you) to try to decrease the likelihood of an unwanted behavior is also effective and generally humane, it is not what our training is primarily based on.
The most important part of our philosophy is the commitment to train without using harm, fear, distress, pain, or force to accomplish learning.
Instead of bullying or coercing animals into a state of learned helplessness, we create lasting change by teaching your dog new skills and emotional responses.
We find that positive reinforcement builds confidence, strengthens relationship, and streamlines learning by creating empowered and happy participants.

Intake sessions are priced at a sliding scale from $125-$175, and continual training sessions are $100-$150.
We also offer dog walking (particularly for reactive or behaviorally complex dogs) that is price dependent on location and session length.
Please choose the price that honestly reflects your financial ability, and feel free to contact us if you are interested in working together but truly cannot afford to.

June Dog is based in Lincoln County Maine. We don’t have a physical facility, but make home visits and do training sessions frequently in places like Belfast, Camden, Rockland, Damariscotta, Freedom, Liberty, and Bath.

Not at this time!
We believe lasting change comes from good communication and a trusting relationship between you and your dog, which is not something they can learn without you.
We do offer dog walking, which can function as a training session for existing clients that need support carving out time for training practice.
